Radon Testing

radon testingInspections Unlimited is proud to offer Radon Testing to better serve our customers. Elevated levels of radon pose a serious health risk. Radon is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. The only way to know whether or not an elevated level of radon is present is to test. We use the latest detection equipment available to ensure the quickest and most accurate report of radon levels possible. If radon is detected, there are systems to safely eradicate it from your home.

radon detectorThe testing process takes a minimum of 48 hours to complete. Unlike many tests which need to be mailed to a lab to be processed, we can give you a report immediately that shows the exact levels of radon in the home. Our testing equipment also shows if the testing process was tampered with. This is important since many potential home buyers are not able to monitor the testing process. This gives home buyers the additional peace of mind that the test is an accurate picture of the actual levels of radon in the home.

Radon Facts

radon illustrationRadon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas. It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium which is found in soil and rock all over the United States. Radon travels through soil and enters buildings through cracks and other holes in the foundation. Eventually, it decays into radioactive particles that can become trapped in your lungs when you breathe. As these particles decay, they release small bursts of radiation. This radiation can damage lung tissue and lead to lung cancer over the course of your lifetime.

Health Effects

Radon is a known human carcinogen. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Like other environmental pollutants, there is some uncertainty about the magnitude of radon health risks. However, scientists are more certain about radon risks than risks from other cancer-causing environmental pollutants. This is because estimates of radon risk are based on studies of cancer in humans (underground miners).

EPA Basic Facts

EPA estimates that about 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the U.S. are radon-related. Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. more
